In the fall of 2022, the Illinois HomeCare and Hospice Council convened a committee focused on reviewing the change in the Illinois Nurse Practice Act, made by the Board of Nursing of the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, that allows certified nursing assistants to deliver medications in home and community-based settings. By bringing together a diverse group of nurses, social workers, physicians, and administrators from home and community-based settings, providers have worked for over a year to determine how the law can be used to address the changing care needs of disabled and seriously ill individuals of a variety of ages.
This Nurse Delegation Seminar is the culmination of the work of the group mentioned above and the beginning of what expanded nurse delegation could look like in Illinois. During this seminar, you will hear the story of nurse delegation in Illinois, learn how other states are effectively and safely using nurse delegation in home- and community-based settings, discuss what operationalizing nurse delegation entails, and spend time brainstorming and collaborating with like-minded professionals from across the state.
